Bhopal: A meeting of mayors focused on fostering sports enthusiasm in urban areas, youth engagement in athletics, and enhancement of sports facilities of civic bodies was organised at Tatya Tope Stadium on Monday. Sports minister Vishwas Kailash Sarang convened the meeting.
The discussion highlighted that existing sports grounds and infrastructure in urban areas could be improved to boost sporting activities. The meeting emphasised establishing stronger links between urban bodies and sports department to ensure widespread sports development across the state.
Sarang outlined various initiatives, including establishing Fit India Clubs and organising community-level sports activities in collaboration with the sports and youth welfare department. He requested mayors to identify areas for sports promotion in their jurisdictions and prepare proposals accordingly, aiming to cultivate sporting interest and contribute to a healthier, more active society.
The meeting addressed plans for Fit India Clubs in urban areas and sports complexes in assembly constituencies. Minister Sarang noted that Bhopal houses the state's first Fit India Club, with its second phase under construction. This model will be replicated across all urban bodies, offering facilities for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being for all age groups. He urged mayors to identify suitable locations and submit proposals promptly.
Sarang highlighted the state govt's pioneering initiative to construct sports complexes in every assembly constituency, aimed at engaging youth in sports and nurturing talent.
The meeting covered departmental initiatives, including Khelo Badho Abhiyan, Parth Yojana and Madhya Pradesh Yuva Prerak Abhiyan. Sarang explained that Khelo Badho Abhiyan targets youth engagement in sports, whilst Parth Yojana prepares youth for police, Army, and paramilitary examinations. The Madhya Pradesh Yuva Prerak Abhiyan focuses on developing leadership skills and social responsibility. He requested mayors' support in implementing these programmes effectively in their regions.
