Toddler drowns in Puri village pond

Puri: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy drowned in a pond behind his house at Banguruba Gadadharapur village in Puri district on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Baibhav Gochhayat.
According to family members, the toddler slipped out of the house unnoticed while playing around 2 pm. After a frantic search, his body was found floating in the pond behind their residence. "We immediately rushed him to Sakhigopal community health centre, but doctors declared him dead on arrival," said the grieving father, Nihar Ranjan Gochhayat.
Chandanpur police have registered a case of unnatural death. The body was sent for post-mortem at the district headquarters hospital and later handed over to the family.
