AMBALA: In a significant breakthrough, the Economic Offences Wing of Ambala Police has arrested a key accused in a visa fraud (kabootarbazi) case registered at the Ambala Cantonment police station. The accused, Ajay Kumar, a resident of Habibpur village in Gurdaspur district, Punjab, was apprehended from Gurugram during a targeted operation under the supervision of Inspector Rishi Pal.
The action was taken as part of an ongoing drive against criminal activities, launched under the directives of Superintendent of Police Ambala, Mr. Surender Singh Bhoria. The case was originally registered on January 9, 2025, under sections 316(2), 318(4), and 61 of the BNS.
According to police, Ajay Kumar was working closely with the prime accused to manufacture fake visa stickers and other forged travel documents. During the raid, police recovered a large quantity of equipment and materials used in the forgery process, including two mobile phones, three passports, one PAN card, cheque book, coloured passport cover paper packets, silver plastic sheet packets, photo sheet paper, transparent sticker packets, coloured lamination tape, reactive foil, circuit toolkit, cash, a metro card, a laptop, silver hologram sheets and hologram cutter machine (projector).
The accused has been remanded to police custody for two days by the district court for further investigation. The police have stated that more arrests are expected soon as other individuals involved in the racket are being traced. One of the co-accused has already been arrested earlier.
The case was initially filed by complainant Tarun, a resident of Kaccha Bazaar, Ambala Cantonment, who alleged that between July 3, 2024, and October 21, 2024, Ajay Kumar and his associates defrauded him of Rs 14.10 lakh under the pretext of sending him abroad.
The investigation is ongoing, and Ambala Police have assured strict action against all those involved in this visa scam.
