Bathinda: Congress activists took to the streets in districts across Punjab to protest against the state govt for registering a case against leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa over his claims about bombs. The activists also burned effigies of the state govt and demanded the cancellation of the case against Bajwa. Congress leaders said the voices of opposition leaders could not be silenced through such actions.
Congress MLA Kuldeep Singh Kala Dhillon, while leading the protest at Barnala, said instead of taking action against the opposition leader, chief minister Bhagwant Mann should strengthen its intelligence wing. The Congress activists organised a protest march from the DC office in Barnala to Court Chowk.
At Bathinda, district Congress president Rajan Garg led the party workers in holding a protest near Bathinda railway station. He said there was an input indicating a potential attack on a Hindu leader, which occurred at the residence of former minister Manoranjan Kalia, yet the intelligence remained unaware of it. The CM needs to look into the failures of the intelligence wing instead of threatening opposition leaders.
During an interview to a private news channel, , Bajwa had claimed that "50 bombs have reached Punjab". "Of this, 18 have exploded, 32 are yet to go off," he had said.
Earlier, the entire Congress leadership, including Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, defended Bajwa and said the statement was based on media reports that nine bombs were still untraceable. Warring said many blasts have occurred in Punjab and the state govt needs to stop all this instead of targeting opposition leaders.
