Mohali: In a shocking incident, a 51-year-old nurse, who worked at a prominent hopsital, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her flat in a residential society in Dhakoli on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Durga Bisht, a nurse at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula.
Police said the incident came to light when Durga's son returned home and found his mother lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries. He immediately informed the police, who rushed to the spot. The body was then sent to Derabassi civil hospital for postmortem.
DSP Preet Kanwar Singh, Dhakoli police station probationer SHO, said, "Investigations are underway and prima facie suspicion is against her husband. At the time of incident, Durga was with her husband in the flat. Questioning is going on and forensic teams are also collecting evidence after which appropriate action as per law will be taken."
Durga is survived by her husband and four children — three sons and a daughter. Eldest son is married and they all were staying together, said the police. Her husband Kailash was present at the flat when the police arrived and is currently being questioned. Police officials have not ruled out any possibilities and stated that all angles — including personal and professional — are being investigated.
"This is a serious matter. We are conducting a thorough investigation. The cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. We are questioning all relevant individuals," said an official from the Dhakoli police station.
