Love, betrayal, murder: Haryana man dies on wedding day, bride’s lover held

FARIDABAD: A 22-year-old woman and her lover were accused of orchestrating the murder of her fiancé, who succumbed to injuries on what was meant to be his wedding day on Saturday.
Saurav of Tigaon and Sonu of Ghitora were arrested for the murder of Gaurav, a resident of Soti village. Police are looking for three more accomplices. They are yet to question the woman accused by Gaurav’s family of plotting the murder. According to cops, Saurav and the 22-year-old woman — both teachers at a private school in Trikha Colony in the city — were involved in a relationship for four years before her family arranged her marriage with Gaurav.
The sequence of events began unfolding on March 28, a few days after the marriage was fixed. According to Premchand — the victim’s father — Saurav and Sonu started threatening Gaurav, warning him of dire consequences if he proceeded with the wedding. After Gaurav informed the cops about a possible threat to his life, the matter was temporarily resolved as the two accused offered an apology to him. The peace, however, proved deceptive.
A couple of days before the wedding — on April 17 — Saurav and his accomplices allegedly stopped Gaurav near IMT roundabout while he was on his way home from work. The group rained blows on him and robbed him of his gold chain and ring, the complaint alleged.
Initially registered as a case of theft and assault at Sadar Ballabhgarh police station, the charges were upgraded to murder after Gaurav’s death on Friday — the day he was supposed to tie the knot.
“The accused couldn’t accept the arranged marriage and plotted this assault out of rage,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.
The cops have recovered the vehicle used in the crime.
