Hyderabad: The Alwal police on Wednesday arrested a repeat offender involved in 29 cases for killing an elderly couple. The arrested was identified as Chinthakindi Anil (37), a resident of Alwal.
According to police officials, Anil, who was serving life sentence in a rape and murder case, came out of jail after he challenged the lower court's verdict in high court and obtained temporary relief on April 26. Since his release, he had been looking for an opportunity to commit theft.
In the early hours of May 4, at around 3 am, Anil went to the residence of the couple — A Kanakaiah (70) and A Rajamma (65). Upon finding them asleep, Anil broke open the door and beat them to death used a stick used in construction work. He then stole gold, silver ornaments, along with Rs 1 lakh cash, before fleeing from the spot.
The police collected fingerprints from the crime scene and analysed CCTV footage, after which they zeroed in on Anil. The accused was involved in several offences, including two murder and rape cases. He was convicted in one such case by a local court before receiving relief from the high court.
Anil reportedly took to crime in his childhood. After being involved in theft cases, he was sent to a juvenile home.
