Jaipur: Commuters using Sirsi Road should prepare for traffic slowdowns and brief snarls over the next six months, as Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) begins widening the stretch between Jharkhand Mod Tiraha and the 200-Feet (C-Scheme) Bypass next week.
A senior JDA engineer confirmed the phased widening project, stating that the road will be divided into smaller sections to minimise disruption. "Traffic will only be blocked on a small portion at a time. If required, we will divert traffic from one flank to the other during work," the official said.
The project will start from the 200-Feet Bypass end. Jaipur police's additional commissioner (traffic and administration) Yogesh Dadhich said police are monitoring the developments and will implement diversions when necessary. "There are no permanent traffic diversions planned at the moment," he added.
Despite objections from residents and local shopkeepers over the proposed road width, the JDA maintains that even a 160-foot-wide stretch will be insufficient for future traffic demands. Engineers clarified that no service lanes will be constructed. "Post encroachment clearance, we will have a 48-metre width—21 metre for each carriageway, and the remaining six metres for pavements and a central median," said the engineer.
