Kanpur hosts under-20 inter divisional football

Kanpur: Basti outplayed Mirzapur by 4-3 in the tie-breaker in the inaugural match of under-20 inter divisional state football tournament being played at Deen Dayal school football ground on Tuesday. The two teams exhibited aggressive attacking gameplay but failed to convert opportunities into goals. Both teams couldn't make a goal in the stipulated 70 minutes. To resolve this, a tie-breaker was introduced wherein Basti successfully converted 4 out of 5 penalties into goals, whilst Mirzapur managed only three conversions.
The match between Saharanpur and Azamgarh was keenly contested. Azamgarh conceded a penalty when their defender deliberately pushed rival forward Parvez. The referee awarded a penalty, which Parvez successfully converted into a goal. Despite Azamgarh's vigorous attempts to equalise in the second half, they were unsuccessful.
Wednesday's fixture - Basti v/s Varanasi 8 a.m., Moradabad vs Bareilly 3 p.m. and Meerut v/s Prayagraj 4:30 p.m.
