Kochi: Muvattupuzha police, with the help of Interpol, arrested a man, who was hiding in Abu Dhabi after he was accused of sexually abusing a minor girl in 2022. The arrested person was identified by police as Suhail, 27, a resident of Randarkara in Muvattupuzha.
The accused escaped to Abu Dhabi after the police submitted the chargesheet to Muvattupuzha court handling cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, in 2023. The police subsequently issued an open-ended warrant against the accused and following a court order, a lookout notice was also issued.
"Interpol issued a red notice a few months ago, and the UAE administration alerted us about the accused staying in the country, leading to his arrest," said a senior police officer.
The operations were led by district police chief Vaibhav Saxena. Muvattupuzha inspector Basil Thomas and team brought the accused back to Kerala on Wednesday. Suhail was produced before the court and was later remanded.
