Saving water is equivalent to producing it, says Pathak
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is setting an example in providing clean drinking water to every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring access even in the remotest parts of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak highlighted this achievement during the inaugural session of the TOI Water Summit, where he addressed the topic ‘Ensuring Clean Water, Conservation, and Efficient Management of Maha Kumbh 2025.'
Pathak said, "There was a time when households stored water in small tanks and buckets, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to provide clean drinking water to every home. Today, Uttar Pradesh ranks number one in the country for implementing the mission."
He further shared key data on the mission's progress, stating, "Water supply has been ensured in around 24,000 villages, and we have provided 2.36 crore connections so far. Additionally, we constructed 37,465 pump houses and completed the boring of 38,456 tube wells across the state."
For Maha Kumbh 2025, Pathak emphasised the critical role of the irrigation department in organising the grand religious gathering.
"No infrastructure—whether roads, lights, tents, or IT resources—can fulfil its purpose without sufficient water supply. The govt, under the leadership of the Prime Minister and CM Yogi Adityanath, has ensured that there was no shortage of clean water at Maha Kumbh," he said.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the irrigation and Jal Jeevan Mission officials in improving irrigation capacity and water supply.
Pathak urged the people of Uttar Pradesh to adopt water conservation practices. "It is our responsibility to use water wisely. Whether it is washing vehicles or excessive use in washrooms, we must minimise wastage. Saving water is equivalent to producing it," he stated.
He also pointed out how the state has integrated renewable energy into the water supply system, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
"Many of our water supply systems now run on solar power, helping us generate and distribute electricity efficiently," he added.
Deputy CM concluded by expressing gratitude to TOI for organising awareness programmes and reaffirmed the govt's commitment to ensuring water availability across the state.
