UP man shot dead for refusing to withdraw murder case testimony

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old murder case witness was shot dead in Bijopura village, UP, police said on Monday.
Circle Officer Devwrat Bajpai informed reporters that Salman served as a crucial witness in his brother's murder case, which was being heard in a Meerut court.
The primary suspect has been identified as Irfan by the police.
The authorities have registered a case against Irfan and his four accomplices - Kaliya, Mohammad Ali, Naimuddin, and Fazil - all residents of Meerut - for Salman's murder.
The officer confirmed that all five suspects remain at large.
According to the victim's brother Naushad's complaint, the accused had been exerting pressure on Salman to withdraw his testimony in the murder case of their brother Zaid, who was killed in Meerut four years ago.
Police reported that on Saturday, Salman was transported to a wooded area in Bijopura village, where he was fatally shot.
The authorities confirmed that his body, bearing multiple gunshot wounds, was discovered and identified on Sunday.
