Vile Parle woman killed in mishap on Goa Highway, 2 others injured
Navi Mumbai: A 28-year-old woman identified as Aditi Singh, a resident of Vile Parle, riding pillion with a 10-year-old girl on a bike was killed on the Goa highway near Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Panvel. The incident occurred after an SUV travelling on the opposite lane lost control, jumped the median, and crashed into the bike near Tara village on Sunday. Due to the impact of the crash, the bike skidded, and the three individuals on the bike were flung into the air, falling about 20 feet down the valley adjacent to the highway.
The 10-year-old girl, Gauri Khairnar, and the bike rider Salman Shah, aged 27, a resident of Ulwe were injured. PSI Dipak Shelke of Panvel Taluka Police Station informed that a group had come to Karnala Bird Sanctuary on three bikes for a weekend picnic. On one bike were Gauri's parents and sister, while Gauri was on Salman's bike. On another bike was the complainant, Aashish Singh Pardesi,32, who is married to Aditi Singh's elder sister.
Aditi had come to stay with her sister at Ulwe, and on Sunday, they went to Karnala Bird Sanctuary for a picnic. After returning from the sanctuary, they were heading towards a hotel on the Goa highway for lunch. Around 12 noon, when the biker Salman, with pillion rider Aditi and the minor girl Gauri, reached near Tara village, an SUV travelling on the opposite lane lost control, jumped the median, and crashed into Salman's bike. The bike skidded, and the three on the bike were flung into the air, falling about 20 feet down the valley. The police rushed the injured to MGM Hospital, Kamothe, where Aditi was declared brought dead. The biker Salman and the minor girl Gauri sustained severe injuries and are being treated at MGM Hospital, Kamothe.
Panvel Taluka Police have registered an FIR against the SUV driver, identified as Harshad Jain, aged 32, a resident of Alibaug. He was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Motor Vehicle Act for rash and negligent driving causing death. The accused Jain has not been arrested but was served with a notice under Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, as per the provision of the law, directing him to cooperate in the police investigation. Since the offence registered against him attracts a punishment of less than seven years if convicted by the court, informed PSI Shelke.
