Gaya: Gaya police on Tuesday announced the successful busting of an organised inter-district gang responsible for multiple thefts across Gaya and Jehanabad districts.
Five suspects were arrested in a coordinated operation conducted by five special teams under the supervision of city SP Ramanand Kaushal. The arrests took place late Monday evening in different police station areas – Mahakar, Belaganj, Chakand, Khizersarai and Tekari.
At a press briefing, senior superintendent of police Anand Kumar said, "The arrested persons confessed to their involvement in at least 23 theft incidents, including seven under Tekari, five under Panchanpur, two each under Belaganj and Khizersarai police stations and others under Pai Bigha, Bodh Gaya, Chandauti, Rampur and Buniyadganj police station areas."
The police recovered a country-made pistol, three cartridges and a range of stolen items including three laptops, a tablet, two televisions, a mixer, a refrigerator, and other electrical appliances.
"In view of inputs about the organised gang behind these theft incidents, five special teams were constituted," the SSP said. "One team arrested Ashok Paswan from Mahakar with a country-made pistol and three cartridges. Another arrested Parikshan Paswan from Belaganj, also in possession of a country-made pistol. Ajit Kumar, Pankaj Kumar and Suraj Kumar alias Suraj Paswan were arrested from Khizersarai, Tekari and Chakand, respectively."
According to Kumar, the gang meticulously planned their thefts. "The arrested persons have confessed involvement in well-planned theft incidents in houses and shops under several police station areas, not only in Gaya but in Jehanabad district as well. Before committing theft, they collected all the necessary information," he said.
The gang is also suspected of involvement in a theft at a car showroom under the Bodh Gaya police station on Feb 16 this year.
"Police are conducting a technical investigation to gather further evidence and identify additional members of the gang," the SSP added.
