PM Narendra Modi visits Varanasi, asks officials to take strict action in gang-rape case

Upon arriving in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed on the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman in his constituency. Uttar Pradesh officials updated Modi on the crime, reporting that the victim was allegedly assaulted by 23 individuals over six days in various hotels after being sedated.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a comprehensive update about the alleged gang-rape of a young woman in his constituency upon his arrival in Varanasi on Friday morning.
According to a Uttar Pradesh government statement, senior officials including the police commissioner, divisional commissioner and district magistrate briefed him about the "recent criminal rape incident in the city".

"He instructed them to take the strictest possible action against the culprits and to implement appropriate measures to prevent such incidents in the future," the statement mentioned.
The incident involves a 19-year-old woman who was allegedly gang-raped by 23 individuals over a period of six days.
Police reports indicate that the perpetrators sedated the victim and transported her between various hotels during the period of assault. By Monday, authorities had apprehended six suspects in connection with the case.
On his visit to Varanasi on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 44 development projects worth �?,880 crore. The initiatives span multiple sectors, with a strong focus on rural development.
Among the key projects are 130 drinking water schemes, 100 new anganwadi centres, 356 libraries, a polytechnic college in Pindra, and a government degree college. A transit hostel at the police lines, police barracks in Ramnagar, and four rural roads were also inaugurated, according to Varanasi Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma.
Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present at the event.
