Akshay Kumar teams up with National award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan for 'Tirangaa': Report

Bollywood's illustrious star Akshay Kumar renowned for his patriotic films like Kesari, Airlift, Rustom, and Gold, is set to star in Tirangaa. He is set to collaborate with the director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan for Tirangaa.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the decision to bring Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan on board was a well-considered choice by the producers, Ashvin Varde, Subhash Kale, and Narendra Hirawat, along with Akshay Kumar.They believe that Chauhan's expertise will provide the film with the necessary commercial appeal and depth. A source stated, “The producers of the film... along with Akshay Kumar realized that Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan will be an apt choice to handle a film like this and give it the required commercial treatment” .
Chauhan, who has previously directed critically acclaimed films such as Lahore (2010) and 72 Hoorain (2023), both of which received National Awards, is known for his storytelling prowess. He was also a writer for Ranveer Singh’s cricket drama ’83 , showcasing his versatility in different genres.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Akshay Kumar and Chauhan have been linked. They were previously slated to work together on a project titled Gorkha, which was to be produced by Aanand L Rai. However, that film was shelved due to unspecified technical issues, as confirmed by Rai in January 2023. He stated,
Chauhan was also set to direct Chandamama Door Ke, a space-themed film featuring the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but that project did not materialize either.
As anticipation builds for Tirangaa, the collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan promises to deliver a fresh narrative in Bollywood. With filming expected to begin by December 2024, fans are eager for more details about this exciting project.
Apart from this, Akshay Kumar has an exciting lineup of films, including the much-anticipated Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and the recently announced Bhoot Bangla. The latter marks his reunion with director Priyadarshan after 14 years, promising a horror-comedy experience. Kumar shared the film's first look on his birthday, expressing enthusiasm for this collaboration, which is set to release in 2025.
