John Abraham and
Rohit Shetty are all set to team up for a powerful new project that blends real-life drama with the director’s signature action-packed storytelling. As per the latest reports, this untitled film is inspired by the life and career of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria.
Inspired by a true life storyAs reported by Mid-Day, the film draws its inspiration from Maria’s autobiography, ‘Let Me Say It Now’, and is set to chronicle his journey from being a young boy from Bandra to becoming one of the most respected cops in India. The script reads like a thriller, with intense moments from some of Mumbai’s darkest chapters – including the 1993 Bombay blasts and the 26/11 terror attacks.
The report revealed that the film would follow his journey and focus on his deep connection with Mumbai and the vital role he played in safeguarding the city during the terror attacks.
A truth-driven cop Universe from Rohit ShettyKnown for his gripping and glossy cop dramas like 'Singham', 'Simmba', and 'Sooryavanshi', Rohit is now taking a different route. This time, the drama is grounded in real-life events. As an insider told the portal, “Rohit always wanted to make a cop film rooted in truth.
Rakesh Maria’s life reads like a thriller. It’s intense and has many high points, from his investigation of the 1993 Bombay blasts and the 26/11 attacks to his brush with the underworld. Maria and Shetty have been in talks for a while, and it’s finally starting now.”
The first leg of the shoot will focus on Maria’s early days in the police force. A dedicated team of about 150 crew members, including prosthetic specialists, research teams, and action coordinators, will be on set to ensure authenticity in storytelling and aesthetics. The team is even constructing a detailed set of the
Maharashtra ATS headquarters, which played a pivotal role in Maria’s real-life story.
Shetty’s crew has planned to shoot at nearly 40 real locations across Mumbai. These include culturally and historically significant sites like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dongri, and the
Taj Mahal Palace Hotel – all places connected in some way to events from Maria’s tenure.
