Ellen Pompeo, the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor, revealed that she won’t ever turn her back towards the famed series - as it makes no sense, financially. While her screen time has been lower than before, Pompeo would not deliberately get out of the show that gets billions of views every year.
In an interview with El País, Ellen explained the reason of not leaving the show which has been running on television since 2005. “That would make no sense, emotionally or financially. The show was streamed more than a billion times in 2024. More than a billion times,” she stated.
“The companies that own the show and stream the show make a lot of money from our images and our voices and our faces. If I were to walk away completely, everybody gets to make money from my hard work for 20 years, and I wouldn’t make any money,” she added.
The actress concluded by saying, “To me, it doesn’t make any sense that everybody gets to profit off of my hard work. And emotionally, the show means a lot to people. I want to have an attitude of gratitude toward the show.”
The actress who plays the character, Meredith Grey, is part of ‘Good American Family,’ a limited series drama on Hulu. In the aforementioned interview, she elsewhere mentioned the truth behind joining the different forces other than ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’
“Well, this is a limited series, so I won’t appear as this character again. I was just looking for something that was very different from Meredith Grey, and this offer presented itself,” she said.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has been charting the lists since the debut season and recently got renewed for season 22. One of the fan-favourite series, it stands tall with 444 episodes and 21 seasons.
