Like wet clay in the hands of her directors and they could use her as far as their imagination allowed them on screen, comments Jitesh Pillai.
He took to social media handle to share her the greetings. Along with her photograph, he posted a note. He penned, "Happy birthday Kpac Lalita. Some people give more than they receive. The movie camera understands that and develops an abiding love for the artiste. And if the actor is KPAC Lalitha, like unspooling the reels of film, it's an unending affair with the screen. Technology has taken over, loosely used words like New Generation films have come into play. But KPAC Lalitha goes on with aplomb. Well into her 50th year or acting, like most great actors of her time she has her roots in the theatre movement. Starting off with bit roles in plays, she grew in stature. Then came the movies. When she croons and gives body to Kalyani kalavani in Anubhavangal Palichal, you know here's an actor to reckon with. You see the same emotions poured into prostitute Devyani's character who is filled with compassion for Raman(Ashokan) in Padmarajan's Peruvazhi Ambalam. She has played the lover, mother, wife, mother in law, sister, vamp, vixen...no holds barred. Nothing was too difficult or complex for her to portray. She was like wet clay in the hands of her directors and they could use her as far as their imagination allowed them on screen. This was best seen in her husband Bharatan's films like Aaravam, Vengalam, Amaram to name a few. She changed her voice, she jumped into her sea of emotions. Sathyan Antikad is another director who harnessed Lalitha's potential. Be it bit roles in TP Balagopalan MA, Gandhinagar Kanalkaatu, Sasneham she’s note-perfect. It's also all in the KPAC voice. Sample her voice modulation in the scene in Fazil's Manichitratazhu where during a bath Mohanlal mistakenly takes away her clothes. It's a hoot. Adoor Gopalakrishnan too used it to full effect in Mathilukal. She the quick change artiste, turns the voice from teasing to complaining with just the right intonations and notes. Her talent lies in the small slit of her eyes, the curled lips, the chameleon expressions and that unmistakable voice which has used to dubbed and enhance many other heroines performances. Rarely does one see a perfect synthesis of physical and emotional dexterity. We deserve her, more importantly, the movies deserve her."
