The art of handshake! Here's how the internet reacted to Trump and Macron's ‘tug-of-war’ moment

Bromance? Or an awkward encounter?
Donald Trump and Emanuel Macron’s handshake has left the internet divided once again!
As the clock ticked to mark the third year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron met at the White House. While the two leaders exchanged a series of gestures, such as hugs, yank handshakes, hand grips, knee touches, and backslaps, and discussed the ongoing situation in Ukraine - their ‘bromance’ stole the limelight and has gone quite viral on the internet. Although when it came to their views on Russia and Ukraine, they seemed as far apart as ever - the two diplomats didn’t let that jeopardize their ‘bromance’ before the camera.

Trump and Macron, both smiling, shared a lengthy handshake outside the Oval Office, exchanging mutual pats on the shoulder. Trump then pulled the French President in closer to continue the greeting. They then waved at the press before heading into the West Wing.

A video of the interaction quickly went viral on social media, with many calling it a "tug-of-war" moment.
One internet user even commented, “Donald Trump greets French President Emmanuel Macron with an absolute death grip of a handshake. Something tells us Macron isn't going to enjoy this meeting very much,” while another wrote, “The handshake battle continues between President Trump and President Macron.”

Another user commented, “French President Emmanuel Macron losing the handshake war with President Trump. Macron should have brought the big man of the house to give this handshake instead,” while someone else mentioned, “The subtle handshake war between Macron and Trump has been off the charts today.”

After that handshake outside the Oval Office, Trump and Macron held a joint press briefing, during which Macron "interrupted" Trump while he was discussing Ukraine funding. Trump claimed that Europe “is loaning the money to Ukraine and getting their money back.” Macron stopped him mid-sentence and said, "No, in fact, to be frank, we paid. We paid 60% of the total effort."

At one point, as they were seated in the Oval Office, President Macron was seen trying to mitt off President Trump’s hand from his knee.

Reacting to that ‘awkward’ bromance, one netizen wrote, “Donnie never learns, no means no,” while another simply deemed it to be ‘hilarious’! One user preempted, “He looks like he wants to punch Donald in the face,” and another asked “Do you think Macron practised that before going? I do. Good lad.” Another user added, “The look on Macron's face is priceless. He tried so hard to get away.”
