The majority of stores and businesses are either closed or have shortened hours. Malls and large retail stores may remain open, although because of the holiday, foot traffic is typically decreased.
Importantly, May 1 is also observed as a dry day across the state, meaning liquor sales are prohibited. Bars, pubs, and liquor shops will not serve or sell alcohol.

Transportation and essential services

Essential services such as hospitals, emergency services, and public utilities will continue to function normally.
Despite the possibility of less traffic than normal because of the vacation, public transportation will be available, including Mumbai's suburban trains, metro, buses (BEST and MSRTC), and auto/taxi services.
