Mercedes-Benz India launched the next-generation C-Class back in 2022. Two years later, in June 2024, the luxury sedan received a model year update, introducing a new engine option along with refreshed features and changes to the lineup. The company dropped the C 300 d from the C-Class lineup and replaced it with a new C 300 AMG Line variant. This change means the powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (OM654) is no longer available, and in its place is a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (M254) with a performance focus.
The C-Class still offers the C 220 d diesel model, along with the C 200 petrol.
The Mercedes-Benz C300 AMG line is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine which puts out 258 hp of power and 400Nm of torque. The engine also gets an integrated starter generator (ISG) that provides an additional output of 22 hp and 205Nm, and an over-boost function that provides 27 hp of extra power for 30 seconds. The over-boost function can be activated several times in succession until the defined temperature limits are reached, and the engine comes paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The sedan can sprint from 0-100kph in 6 seconds and has a top speed of 250kph.
Right from the start, the new C 300 feels eager and confident. There’s a smooth surge of power that makes highway cruising effortless, and acceleration remains strong well past the 100 km/h mark. The engine revs cleanly beyond 6,000 rpm and delivers a satisfying note while doing so. Switching to Sport+ mode adds a touch more volume and character to the soundtrack—it’s subtle, but purposeful. The 9-speed automatic transmission complements the engine beautifully, offering quick and seamless gear changes. For those who like a bit more control, the paddle shifters provide an engaging alternative.
Cruising through city traffic or on a relaxed office run, the engine barely breaks a sweat, often spinning just above idle at around 1,000 rpm. Yet even in this calm state, it impresses with its refinement and hidden strength. There’s a certain charm to how effortlessly it moves without tapping into its full potential. But press the throttle with intent, and it transforms. The response becomes sharp and almost aggressive. The steering firms up as you go faster, it’s quick and responsive, giving the car an agile, playful feel. You can flick it through corners with confidence, knowing exactly how the front wheels are behaving. There’s ample grip, and thanks to smart electronics and a balanced chassis, the car feels composed and secure even when pushed.
As for the ride, it’s a mixed bag. Over perfectly smooth roads, it feels settled and composed. But the stiffer suspension setup, paired with the 18-inch AMG-style wheels and 225/45 section Pirelli tyres, can make rougher surfaces feel busy. That said, firmness helps the handling. With strong brakes, rear-wheel drive, and a confident setup, the C 300 delivers a genuinely engaging driving experience. For most enthusiasts and everyday buyers alike, it strikes a great balance, blending everyday usability with a level of performance that’s hard not to enjoy.
In terms of looks, the Mercedes-Benz C300 in the AMG Line trim brings a sportier edge to the C-Class range. It stands out with bold front and rear bumpers, paired with large AMG-style multi-spoke alloy wheels that enhance its dynamic stance. The car also comes equipped with the ‘Night Package’, adding dark accents and a full black interior for a sleek, performance-oriented look.
Buyers can choose from exclusive Manufaktur paint options, including striking shades like Patagonia Red Bright and Sodalite Blue. Inside, the C300 offers a premium experience with standout features such as the Burmester 3d surround sound system, augmented reality for navigation, blind spot monitoring, keyless entry, and more. Also, it comes equipped with ventilated front seats offering both heating and cooling functions. The controls are conveniently positioned on the door panel, right beside the seat adjustment switches.
Being an AMG Line model, the C300 features sportier front seats, an AMG-spec flat-bottom steering wheel, brushed metal accents throughout the cabin, and contrasting black finishes that elevate its sporty appeal. The interior feels both modern and upscale, with a design that leans toward sophistication over flashiness. At this price point, the C-Class truly delivers a “baby S-Class” experience, offering luxury, tech, and refinement that punches well above its weight.
