Yellow alert: Delhi-NCR likely to witness light rain, thunderstorm for next two days

NEW DELHI: The city saw a warm Wednesday with a slight rise in temperature that dropped sharply by evening, accompanied by a brief downpour in some areas. Meanwhile, western Uttar Pradesh witnessed intense rainfall until 5.30 pm.In response to the changing weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for possible rain on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Yellow warnings for thunderstorms and rain remain in place for Thursday and Friday, with a likely dip in daytime temperatures.The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 36.5 degrees Celsius, slightly up from 36 degrees Celsius the previous day but still three degrees below normal. The minimum was 24.8 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. Humidity ranged from 38% to 75%, with southeasterly winds blowing at up to 15 kmph.A fresh western disturbance is expected to affect the western Himalayan region by May 9. On May 8, temperatures are likely to remain between 36 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees Celsius, dropping to 34 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius on May 9. The IMD also forecasts light rain with winds of 30-40 kmph and gusts up to 50 kmph over the next two days.The city's air quality remained in the moderate category, with the AQI at 153, slightly higher than Tuesday's 141. The early warning system predicts air quality will remain moderate through May 10. "The outlook for the subsequent six days: The air quality is likely to be in the moderate category," it stated.
