“It’s disappointing. We came in with high hopes, but we haven’t been consistent with our performances.
I’ve spoken a number of times about not being able to put complete performances together, and today was the start of a complete performance. So, it’s frustrating that we couldn’t finish it.”
Asked if the team management should have reconsidered their batting philosophy when things started going wrong, the New Zealander said, “I definitely didn’t say I was backing an aggressive approach. I said we’re about assessing conditions, and this year, the conditions weren’t as we expected. Last year, there were a number of high-scoring games here, and these wickets have been different. So, it has been tricky.
“It hasn’t been easy for the batters. We’ve talked about trying to read the game and understand what to do in certain situations. So, I think the guys are innately aggressive, but it’s certainly this season that has been about trying to establish what’s required on the day,” he elaborated.
Speaking about
Pat Cummins’ (3/19) spell that helped them restrict Delhi Capitals to 133/7 on Monday, Vettori said, “It was probably our best bowling and fielding performance of the tournament so far.”
