Suryakumar Yadav has etched his name in Mumbai Indians (MI) history by becoming the only batter from the franchise to record three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons with 500 or more runs, surpassing legends Sachin Tendulkar and Quinton de Kock, who managed the feat twice each. Suryakumar achieved this milestone during MI’s clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, scoring a brisk 35 off 24 balls, laced with five boundaries at a strike rate of 145.83. It was also his 12th consecutive score of 25-plus this season — the longest such streak by any batter.

Suryakumar now tops the IPL 2025 run charts with 510 runs in 12 matches, averaging 63.75 with a strike rate exceeding 170. He has scored three fifties this season, with a best of 67*.His first 500-run season came in 2018 — his return to MI — where he scored 512 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36.57 and a strike rate over 133, finishing as the team's top scorer. In 2023, he had his most prolific season with 605 runs in 16 matches at 43.21 average and 181+ strike rate, including a century and five fifties, with a top score of 103*.

Tendulkar had two 500-run seasons for MI. In 2010, he won the Orange Cap with 618 runs in 15 innings at an average of 47.53 and strike rate over 132. In 2011, he followed it up with 553 runs in 16 innings at 42.53 average and a century to his name.Quinton de Kock matched Sachin’s feat with back-to-back 500+ seasons in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, he scored 529 runs at 35.26 average, strike rate over 132. He followed it up in 2020 with 503 runs at 35.92 average and a strike rate of 140+, helping MI to consecutive title wins.
