“I bought you a car, with your money”- When Tigers’ Tarik Skubal and his wife Jessica got trolled over a birthday gift

Tigers’ star Tarik Skubal celebrated his 28th birthday last year in November, which was made special with the Cy Young award and a car gifted by his wife, Jessica. MLB.com shared the scoop from the birthday celebration on its X account. Though Skubal was on cloud nine, fans acted mean by trolling them about the source of money for the car.

When Detroit Tigers’ star Tarik Skubal rang in his 28th Birthday on November 20 last year, it became a special day owing to many reasons. First, he won the Cy Young Award for 2024 on the same day. The second reason, also a pleasant surprise from his wife, Jessica, was a car she gifted him. MLB.com shared the moment on its X account, where Jessica took him to the gifted car amidst the birthday celebrations, while all attendees cheered on.

The post garnered massive fan attention as its views reached more than 600K. What stood out in the post was the harsh comments made by the fans over Jessica’s purchase. They brutally trolled the Tigers’ couple, calling her a keeper and money controller. Also, the fans suggested that Jessica bought the car using her husband’s money and gifted it. Here are some of the nasty reactions:
“I bought you a car with your money! Yay!,” was the first comment.

Another fan joined the bandwagon, saying, “Did she happen to use his credit card?”
“His wife surprised him by spending his money?” wrote another fan.
“She spent his money on his car. Wow! She's a keeper,” was another comment.
“He probably paid for it”, speculated another fan.

However, the couple had some encouraging comments, too, to multiply their happiness.
A fan called Jessica ‘cute wife, and another supporting fan commented that the gift was nice.
After the surprise gift was revealed, the friend also participated in celebrations and gave Skubal a champagne shower.

Tarik Skubal met his then-future wife, Jessica, during their high school days. While navigating their career paths, they maintained a long-distance relationship for about four years. Skubal took the relationship to the next phase by proposing to her in December 2020.

Skubal and Jessica married in November 2021. Their wedding venue was the Venue at the Grove in Phoenix, Arizona. Their dogs made the wedding quite beautiful, acting as their ring bearers.
The couple welcomed their first child, a son, on October 18, 2023. Skubal loves being a father and says that fatherhood has taught him patience. He lives comfortably with his family in Phoenix, Arizona. During the baseball season, he resides in Michigan to gain convenient access to the Tigers' clubhouse.
