Rockstar Games has finally brought the long-awaited next-generation upgrade to
Grand Theft Auto V for PC users, three years after its console debut. The free update, released today, introduces a suite of technical improvements and content expansions that bring the PC version in line with its console counterparts.
Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced Edition released for PC: Ray tracing, faster loads, and more
Existing PC owners can download the Expanded & Enhanced edition through their game launcher, with the original Legacy version being delisted from storefronts. Players will need to migrate their Story Mode and Online progress to the new version, and those playing multiplayer should note that friends must use the same game version to play together.
The update introduces several notable enhancements, including ray-traced shadows and reflections, improved graphics options, and support for AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS technologies. PC players with compatible hardware can now enjoy higher resolutions, expanded aspect ratios, and improved framerates. PlayStation users with DualSense controllers will appreciate the addition of adaptive trigger support.
For
Grand Theft Auto Online enthusiasts, the update brings kernel-based anti-cheat protections, voice chat moderation, new vehicles, and Chameleon Paints. Rockstar has also increased the minimum and recommended PC specifications to support these advanced features.
To sweeten the deal, Rockstar is offering a 50 percent discount on
GTA V across Steam and the Epic Games Store, reducing the price to £14.99 until March 20. This update arrives as anticipation builds for
Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected to launch this autumn, with the PC version potentially following in early 2026.
