Bengaluru startup launches India’s first-ever ride-hailing service for kids
A Bengaluru-based startup is launching a new app-based transportation service called MetroRide Kids. This platform, which claimed to be India’s first app-based transport service exclusively for children, is designed to provide safe and reliable rides for kids aged 5-16. This service aims to address the growing concerns of working parents who face challenges with unreliable and overcrowded school transportation options.
MetroRide Kids will offer rides to schools, coaching centres and after-school activities. The company plans to collaborate with parents, hire trained drivers, and equip vehicles with CCTV cameras and GPS tracking for enhanced safety.
Additionally, MetroRide Kids will also use electric vehicles for its operations. After a recent launch in Hyderabad, the startup is now preparing to expand its services to Bengaluru. The company also shared a video to explain how this service works.

How MetroRide Kids is planning to make this service safe for kids

MetroRide Kids said child safety is a top priority for the company and technology will play a key role in the same. The service will use live CCTV monitoring during rides, GPS tracking for real-time location updates, and geofencing to ensure vehicles stay within designated zones.
An SOS button in the cabs will also provide immediate access to a rapid response team, while vehicle immobilisers will also allow for remote intervention in case of emergencies.
Advanced AI systems will monitor driver behaviour to promote safe driving practices. To prevent boarding errors, children use RFID cards for identification, triggering real-time notifications to parents.
MetroRide Kids offers both shared and private rides with flexible subscription options, including weekly and monthly plans.
MetroRide, the parent company of MetroRide Kids, has been providing last-mile connectivity at metro stations in Bengaluru and Hyderabad since 2020. The company’s fleet consists of electric autos and cars.
The company also cited a national study on safe commute to school by WRI that says about “30% of school-going children reported witnessing a crash during their commute to school. 54% of the respondents who conveyed their concerns to the school authorities reported that no action was taken by school authorities. Further, 52% of the parents and 60% of the children, reported that their school has not conducted any workshop/class to educate the students on road safety and safe driving."
