In a interview on Wednesday, May 7, the 26-year-old fighter opened up about the challenges he's endured over the past few months, including his well-publicized split from long-term girlfriend and fiancée
Molly-Mae Hague. The couple, who met on
Love Island in 2019 and have a daughter together, split after what Fury now confesses was a troubled time in his life.
Fury disclosed the end of their relationship was a result of his "problem with alcohol" that arose at a period when he was benched from the sport that is his source of meaning. "Being in a position where
boxing is everything, the fact that I couldn't do that — I couldn't get out of bed in the morning and do what I wanted to do and live and do what made me happy — I just thought, you know, s— it all," he said. "Then you follow that dark path, and you follow it for a few weeks, and you stay there for a very long time. And that, you know, it has repercussions. It has repercussions on absolutely everything."
The result, for Fury, was not only a career stalling but the breakdown of his relationship with Molly-Mae. The agony of that loss, he claims, compelled him to look hard at himself and overhaul his entire way of life.
Now, with renewed focus and a fight scheduled for May 9,
Tommy Fury is determined to reclaim control of his life — both inside and outside the ring. “2024 was the worst year of my life,” he admitted. “And this year is going to be the best year of my life. It starts on Friday. I’ve turned it all around.”
His message is one of redemption, growth, and responsibility — a reminder that no matter what we face, redemption is always possible.
