When
Gabriel Macht returned to the role of the sassy, passionately loyal Harvey Specter, this time in the spinoff series 'Suits L.A.', it surprised and delighted decades-old fans. Despite the successful conclusion of the original series' nine-season run in 2019, audiences were mesmerized by the return of one of its most famous characters. What made Macht choose to go back to the renowned closing after all this time?
The fan-favorite star opens up about what convinced him to step back into his iconic role
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Macht talked honestly about the conversation that led to his return. Macht remarked, "I've met fans who've watched the show four, seven, even fifteen times all the way through," in response to the show's recent rise in popularity. “It's pure madness when you multiply that by 134 episodes.” The Suits following has only gotten stronger in the streaming era, the actor said, particularly since the show found a second home on websites like Netflix.
Macht, who is also well-known for his part in 'The Recruit', described 'Suits' ongoing success and worldwide reach as "amazing," noting that it gave him a lot of opportunities to continue acting. But in spite of everything, he wasn't immediately thrilled about going back.
It turns out that a discussion with Aaron Korsh, the creator of 'Suits,' had a major impact on the choice. According to Macht, Korsh suggested adding some unique characters to 'Suits L.A.', a new chapter that takes place in Los Angeles and is founded by Ted Black, played by Stephen Amell.
Was worried about the return
"I thought we ended the original series really gracefully, so I said, 'Well, tell me more,'" Macht told THR. He was concerned because he was worried that a return may ruin the satisfying conclusion that viewers had received in the finale.
The relationship between Ted Black and Harvey Specter, a friendship Macht found interesting was what finally inspired him. Harvey caught himself back in by the idea of seeing him in a different light and in a different legal environment.
Fans can once again experience Harvey Specter's powerful presence on 'Suits L.A.', which is currently broadcasting on NBC and available for streaming on Peacock. Macht's comeback is more than simply an emotional cameo; it's evidence that well-loved characters can endure beyond time and rebooted universes when handled properly.
