Nikkhil Advani says that his classmates from school and college, who haven’t spoken to him in 40 years, have been reaching out to tell him they can’t stop watching the series. He shares, "Too many people are messaging me. My friends, who are CEOs of companies, are telling me they Google to find out what I’ve shown in the series. They're asking me, 'From where did you get this information?'"
The series is based on the book Freedom at Midnight by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins. Nikkhil says, "The book has gone into reprint. The book is like a Bollywood screenplay - heroes hai, villain hai, ideological conflict hai, dilemma hai, emotional aur visual scale hai. Maaramari hai, rona-dhona hai, guru-shishya hai, shishya guru se alag ho raha hai."
Nikkhil says that as far as authenticity is concerned, they did the best. He explains,"I think we’ve tried to be as authentic as possible. But I don’t think it can ever be enough, right? The people being spoken about and shown in this story were giants. It’s not just about getting their physicality, speech, or walk right. What they thought, what they said, their vision - it was immense. What I tried to do was put the audience into a room with them and show, yeh log kaise the. The audience is getting first-hand knowledge and witnessing these decisions being made."
