The
UFC 314 press conference was mostly overshadowed by the undercard fighters Bryce Mitchell and Jean Silva, owing to their on-stage beef, surrounding controversial remarks and unapologetic taunts. However, amidst all this, there were moments that highlighted the spirit of the sport throughout the event.
Alexander Volkanovski and
Diego Lopes came face-to-face for the first time ahead of their bout and the former made an impression by singing a song to Lopes as a sign of his confidence. This is the first time Volkanovski is returning to the octagon after his defeat against Ilia Topuria at the UFC 298. Apart from this,
Patricio Freire reminded Volkanovski of a previously made bet and if it still stands.

Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski looks ahead to reclaiming his title as he prepares to face Diego Lopes at the UFC 314. Both the fighters will be heading against each other for the vacated featherweight title by Ilia Topuria, as he decided to move up the weight. At the conference, when Volkanovski was asked about his previously made comment on Lopes’s hair, he dodged the bullet and instead sang a song to Lopes lightening up the mood and enhancing the sportsmanship between the two. Lopes is on a 5-match winning streak, while Volkanovski needs to make a comeback after his loss from the last face off against Topuria.
Apart from the main headline fixture, the UFC 314 will also feature Patricio Freire, who will be seen making his debut at UFC against Yair Rodriguez. The three time Bellator featherweight champion and one time Bellator lightweight champion stands with an MMA stat of 36-7-0. While this is his first time fighting in the UFC, the Brazilian fighter reminded Volkanovski of a previously made bet of $1 million.

“Listen, when I was in another organization, I made a bet with Volkanovski. I said, ‘One million bucks if you or I win’. I know we have got fights coming up, but maybe down the line you wanna keep that bet open?” Freire addressed the former UFC featherweight champion in Portuguese.
To this, Volkanovski responded with a cryptic reply, “If you put on a good performance. Like I said, I’m expecting to defend my belt a couple of times this year. If you do a good job, I’ll see you then.”
