BAREILLY: A case has been filed for alleged medical negligence against a Moradabad-based doctor and his hospital staff after a 26-year-old woman from Bijnor died following a c-section delivery at the facility.
Virendra Singh had admitted his wife, Shivani Singh, to the private hospital in the Hanuman Murti Tiraha area of Katghar on April 10 around 8.30 am after she went into labour. Dr Piyush Kumar performed the surgery, and a few hours later, Shivani gave birth to a baby girl.
Post-surgery, both mother and child were in critical condition and the newborn was admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), while Shivani was shifted to the ICU due to excessive bleeding.
Virendra alleged that Dr Kumar and his staff were negligent in her treatment, and did not provide timely medication and necessary blood transfusions, which worsened her condition. Shivani died around 3am on April 12 at the hospital. He further claimed that Dr Kumar had left for Allahabad to celebrate his son's birthday after performing the c-section, leaving Shivani in the care of hospital staff.
Based on Virendra's complaint, Katghar police registered an FIR against Dr Kumar and his staff members under BNS Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence). SHO Katghar, Sanjay Kumar, told TOI, "As per law, we will serve them a notice to assist in the investigation."
Meanwhile, Dr Kumar denied the negligence charges, saying, "The woman was already critical and her vitals were low when she was referred from the district hospital and brought to our hospital. A gynecologist was looking after her treatment and she was present in the hospital when she died. We will present our case before the police and court as we did everything possible to save her."
