Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday said Madhya Pradesh's economic growth accelerated only after the BJP came to power in the state. Citing data, he said that under Congress rule, the state's per capita income was Rs 11,718, which has now risen to Rs 1,52,615 under BJP governance.
He was addressing the state assembly during the Vote of Thanks discussion on the Governor's speech.
Responding to Leader of Opposition (LoP) Umang Singhar's demand for an account of development over the last 20 years, Yadav said MP was formed in 1956 and remained under Congress rule until 2003. "The state's per capita income was 80% of the national average in 1960, but by 2003, it had dropped to 60%. That is your govt's achievement," he said looking at the LOP.
"We are ready to give an account of how our (BJP) govt is working. Our account is that we have brought it back to 80% of the national average. This is our record of 20 years. If you compare, you will understand. In 1956, the price of wheat was Rs 94 (per quintal), and your government was in power. At that time gold was available at Rs 90 rupees per tola (10 grams). During your govt's tenure till 2003, farmers used to get only Rs 600 per quintal. Today, under our govt, we are ready to acquire wheat at Rs 2600. This is our govt, this is our way of working," the chief minister said.
Chief minister Yadav argued that the economic development rate of the state was 4.43% till the year 2002-03 when the Digvijaya Singh govt was in power, today it is 11.5%. "The GSDP of the state was Rs 71594 crores during your regime and it is Rs 15.33 lakh crores during our time. The per capita income was Rs 11,718 rupees per annum in 2003 and today it is Rs 1,52,615. This is the data and there is nothing to hide," the chief minister claimed. "Today, if there is any state with the fastest growing economy in the country, then it is Madhya Pradesh," he said.
Yadav further argued that the contribution of the agriculture sector in the state's economy is 44%. "In 2003, your budget was Rs 23,161 crores. You can guess that our full budget for 2024-25 did not come in March, our full budget came after June but even after that we have increased the budget by Rs 65,000 crores in these eight months. This 56-year record of your govt has been only Rs 23,000 crores," he said.
Speaking on industry and investment, the CM alleged that it was Madhya Pradesh's misfortune that all the mills running before independence, like Ujjain's Diamond Mill, Vinod Mill, Indore Textile Mill, Hukumchand Mill were closed-down during the Congress' regime.
