Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Tuesday accused AAP and
Congress of playing a "fixed match" over leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa's controversial "50 grenades have reached Punjab" remark. He accused chief minister Bhagwant Mann and Congress leader Bajwa of pushing Punjab to the brink of chaos through what he described as "cheap politics" on a highly sensitive issue.
Jakhar assured the people that PM Narendra Modi-led central govt was committed to safeguarding the peace of the state and would not allow anyone to disturb it. He urged people to vote against AAP in the upcoming Ludhiana West bypoll.
He alleged that both Mann and Bajwa were aware there was no legitimate justification to the LoP's statement, and the comment was a deliberate attempt to grab headlines and position Bajwa as a potential chief ministerial candidate in the eyes of the Congress high command. Jakhar added Mann "shamelessly" seized on this calculated remark to distract the public from AAP's governance failures and the growing number of critical issues facing the state.
"Mann has suddenly realised he is the chief minister, not Kejriwal or Sisodia," Jakhar remarked. "That he would play politics over such a sensitive matter of law and order, thereby fuelling fear and uncertainty among the public, is deeply troubling,' added Jakhar.
Jakhar described the row as a way to drag a border state like Punjab towards instability.
Citing Union home minister Amit Shah's recent statement in Parliament, Jakhar reaffirmed Modi and his govt would not allow anyone to compromise with Punjab's peace.
Lashing out at the Congress leadership, including Bajwa, Jakhar said their internal power struggles and desperate gimmicks to stay politically relevant rendered the opposition ineffective. He emphasised the BJP was fully capable of protecting Punjab from the failures of both the AAP govt and the Congress.
