Coimbatore police arrest driver for kidnapping businessman's son for Rs 12 lakh ransom

Coimbatore city police arrested a car driver for kidnapping an 11-year-old schoolboy and demanding a ransom of Rs 12 lakhs. The police successfully traced the boy to Bhavani in Erode district and rescued him safely. The driver had financial disputes with the boy's father, which led him to commit the crime.

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police arrested a car driver for kidnapping a schoolboy whose father owned a property development firm for a ransom of Rs 12 lakhs. The police traced his whereabouts to Bhavani in Erode district and arrested him. The schoolboy was rescued safely on Saturday night.
The arrested person was identified as Naveen. Krithika, 41, wife of Sridhar who owned a property development company from Thudiyalur, lodged a complaint with Thudiyalur police on Saturday around 7.30 pm. She said in her complaint that she has two daughters, Rajashree and Jayashree, and a son, Jayasurya, 11.
Naveen worked as a driver for the past year. On Saturday around 11.30 am, Naveen took Jayasurya to a nearby tuition centre in a car. Naveen was asked to pick up Jayasurya from the tuition centre around 3 pm, but he did not return home with Jayasurya.
Immediately, Krithika rushed to the tuition centre and learned that car driver Naveen picked her son Jayasurya around 3 pm. She was not able to reach the car driver Naveen. A credit card belonging to the schoolboy's father was used at an ATM at Saravanampatti around 4.30 pm by the car driver Naveen.
Later, Naveen contacted the boy's father, Sridhar Suryakumar, over the phone and demanded a ransom of Rs 12 lakhs. He also threatened that if the amount was not paid to him, he would murder the minor boy.
Immediately, the family members contacted the police officials who traced the whereabouts of the car driver. The police sought help from Erode district police, who rushed to the spot at Bhavani and arrested the car driver and rescued the boy.
They were handed over to the Thudiyalur police around 8.30 pm on Saturday.
