Army to host ‘Surya Devbhoomi Challenge’
Dehradun: The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Uttarakhand govt, is set to organise an ultra-endurance event in the Himalayas, Surya Devbhoomi Challenge, from Friday to Sunday.
PRO Defence (Dehradun) Lt Col Manish Shrivastava on Tuesday said that the inauguration and expo will be held on Thursday, and the event welcomes participants from both the Army and civilians. "The event, set in Uttarakhand's high altitude and rugged terrains, is crafted to push participants' physical endurance, mental resilience, and emotional strength to their limits," he said.
"On the first day, the event will feature a 110 km high-altitude cycling segment, navigating steep inclines, unpredictable weather, and challenging mountain paths designed to test cardiovascular endurance and mental fortitude. The second day includes a 37 km intense trail run across rugged Himalayan trails, featuring river crossings and steep ascents, demanding strength, balance, and sharp instincts. The third day has a 32 km trail run followed by an 8 km road run, challenging participants' perseverance as they tackle varied elevations and terrains," he added.
Lt Col Shrivastava further said that "around 150 athletes, adventurers, and endurance enthusiasts from across the country, comprising 77 Army personnel and 73 civilians, including seven women athletes, will be participating in the event."
