New Delhi: A woman from West Bengal was lured to Delhi by a gang of human traffickers, who promised her a lucrative job and a brighter future. Instead, she found herself trapped in a nightmare, forced into the exploitative world of the flesh trade.
For three months, she struggled to get out from the confines of the brothel in central Delhi's GB Road but failed. In a dramatic turn of events, the woman, who is in her late twenties, managed to contact her brother using a customer's phone 10 days ago and narrated her ordeal. The call set off a chain of events that led the crime branch to intervene and rescue the woman.
The woman, who studied up to Class V and belonged to a poor family, was divorced by her husband a year ago. The youngest of six siblings, she was married five years ago. After the separation, she worked as a house help in West Bengal before being deceived by a woman who promised her a job and a better life.
Her nightmare began three months ago when she was lured to Delhi. Instead of a job, she was sold into prostitution, and her mobile phone was seized to prevent her from seeking help. After that, she had no contact with her family members until she managed to use a customer's mobile phone and call them.
The family reported the matter to National Human Rights Commission, Delhi, through an NGO named Mission Mukti Foundation. "NHRC requested the crime branch to work on the information and plan a rescue operation," said DCP (Crime) Vikram Singh.
A team comprising inspector Ina Kumari, Manoj Dahiya, and others used technical surveillance and human intelligence to develop the tip-off. As the sun set over the bustling streets of GB Road on Saturday night, the crime branch team prepared to rescue the woman. The cops conducted a raid and rescued her from the brothel. The manager of the brothel was also apprehended on the spot.
The survivor and the brothel manager were handed over to the local police. An FIR was registered and the brothel manager was sent to jail, police said. MSID:: 120036438 413 |
