Panaji: Transport minister Mauvin Godinho chaired the 252nd board of directors meeting of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) on Friday to discuss the expansion of share capital and the procurement of 50 new 9-metre AC electric vehicles (EVs).
At present, KTCL’s fleet has 548 buses, including 48 de-registered vehicles as they have completed 15 years on the road and scrapping them has been proposed. As a result, 447 buses are currently in operation. A total of 48 EV buses are plying on all smart city routes in Panaji.
“KTCL continues to work towards making public transport in Goa more efficient, sustainable, and commuter-centric,�?Godinho said. He chaired the meeting at the corporation’s head office at Porvorim. The attendees included KTC chairman Ulhas Tuenkar, vice-chairman Kritesh Naik Gaunkar, and transport director Pravimal Abhishek.
Several key agenda points were discussed, including the procurement of the 50 new EVs with depot-based charging infrastructure, the development of supporting facilities, the revival and creation of posts, the implementation of a smart ticketing system and app, and the extension of the Mhaji Bus Yojana.
Under the Mhaji Bus Scheme, 57 buses have been empanelled currently, including 46 buses on the Canacona routes (100% private buses on these routes), eight buses on the Margao-Curchorem route and back, two buses on the Ponda-Usgao-Tisk-Sanquelim-Bicholim-Surla route and back, and one bus on the Panaji-Ponda-Curchorem-Neturlim route and back.
