Panaji: The assistant director of transport (enforcement), Nixon Pires Soares, suspended the permits of three bus operators plying on the Margao to Housing Board route due to frequent altercations along their designated route. The decision came after multiple reports of ongoing fights, disrupting services and causing safety concerns.
“We were waiting for an opportunity to suspend their permits because they were creating a nuisance for a long time,” Soares told
TOI.
“These three bus operators were obstructing traffic early in the morning at the bus stop, trying to get train passengers to board their bus. There were also several reports of fights between all the bus drivers and conductors, which included physical altercations and verbal arguments. The traffic police also wrote to us, stating that we need to take some action on that,” Soares said.
“They have to suspend operations for 45 days, else face a penalty of Rs 2,000 to 10,000 per day if they are found plying on the roads,” Soares said.
