HYDERABAD: The special court for Pocso cases of Suryapet district awarded five lakh rupees compensation to a rape survivor, 20, from Atmakur (S), who was repeatedly raped and impregnated by her distant relative residing in the same village. The court also awarded rigorous imprisonment for 25 years and a Rs 30,000 fine to the convict, now 44.
According to police, the girl was at home. Her father passed away due to health issues, and her mother worked on daily wages to feed her children. Taking advantage of her mother’s absence, the convict repeatedly raped the girl by threatening to harm her and her family on multiple occasions for five months.
As the girl became pregnant, he made her consume pills for miscarriage, due to which the girl developed health issues and severe bleeding. While being shifted to the hospital, she delivered an unborn foetus on the roadside. Following this in 2021, Atmakur S police registered a case against the convict and arrested him.
Subsequently, they filed a chargesheet in the court. The court, during the trial, examined the survivor, her mother, and other witnesses, as well as the medical and forensic examination reports, and pronounced him guilty of the crime.
