Kanpur: A building contractor filed a complaint against an ex-corporator, alleging forceful plot seizure and demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion money.
The complainant stated in the FIR lodged at the Kotwali police station that when he opposed, ex-corporator Rajiv Setia and his aides physically attacked him near the court premises. Following the complaint, the police registered a case against Setia and seven other persons. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
Contractor Suraj Gupta from Krishna Nagar stated that one Chinni Bali owns a plot in D-Block, Shyam Nagar, and resides in Delhi with her family members. Ex-corporator Rajiv Setia's residence is adjacent to this plot, he stated. Chinni Bali had transferred the plot's power of attorney, to his name which made Setia angry and he allegedly attempted to acquire the plot through fraudulent means, involving Chinni Bali's sister-in-law, using agreements and documents. On Jan 18, 2025, Rajiv Setia, accompanied by his wife and four unidentified persons, confronted them at the court. He issued threats, demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion money.
After receiving no response from the police station and outpost, the victim approached the court for intervention.tnn
