Nashik: A
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus traveling from Nashik to Pune overturned near Dodi village in Sinnar taluka on Thursday night, injuring 18 people, including the bus conductor. Seven of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.
An officer from Sinnar police said that the driver of the bus, which was carrying 61 passengers, lost control while attempting to avoid a two-wheeler reportedly traveling in the opposite direction.
Hemant Nerkar, depot manager of Sinnar, said, "The bus driver, Ajay Karpe, had just left the Nashik–Pune highway and was en route to Dodi to pick up passengers when he saw a motorcyclist approaching from the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid the motorcycle, the bus skidded off the road and overturned."
The incident occurred around 8.35 pm, about 200 metres before the Dodi village bus stop. Nerkar said that seven passengers, who received serious injuries and required hospitalisation, were taken to Sangamner town, while the others were treated in Sinnar town itself. The driver was not injured in the accident.
"Most of the injured have been discharged. A man suffered a fracture in his hand, while a woman received injuries to her ribs. The condition of all the patients is stable," Nerkar said, adding that the MSRTC will bear the cost of the treatment of all those injured in the accident.
