Stricter verification process for obtaining birth and death certificates in Malegaon
Nashik: Malegaon residents, who were demanding that the govt start the process of issuing delayed birth and death certificates after it was halted in Jan, claimed that the process has become more stringent.
This involves multiple layers of checks, including home visits by local health workers, and an enquiry before any decision is taken on the application.
"It is good that the process of issuing the delayed birth and death certificates has started. But it has become very stringent. The anganwadi sevikas visit the homes of applicants, discuss the issue with family members and neighbours, record their statements, and file a report based on which the applications are processed," pointed out Samajwadi Party functionary Mustaqueem Dignity.
The terms and conditions also require strong evidence of the birth or death, as case may be, from the hospital. If the application involves registration after more than a year, the hospital certificates and other certificates regarding medication must be presented. Additionally, the applicants must submit govt identity cards, family history and background, and land records, if any, to prove residency in a particular area, besides publishing the information in print media.
"The conditions set by the govt are coercive, but we are happy that at least the process of receiving applications and verification has begun so that genuine persons do not have to wait unnecessarily," said Dignity.
The state govt stopped the process of issuing certificates by the revenue department in Jan after accusations by former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya that more than 1,000 birth certs were issued in Malegaon with the aim of rehabilitating people from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
