Pune: Pune rural police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Rohit Gadekar at Soratewadi in Baramati on April 5. Two of the assailants were taken into custody from Bahul village near Chakan by Pimpri Chinchwad police, while the main suspect was arrested from Bijapur district in Karnataka.
A Chakan police team led by assistant police inspector Prasanna Jarhad apprehended the duo, Sagar Mane (25) and Vikram Masal (27), from Bahul village on a tip-off. The duo was hiding in a cowshed on a hillock after hacking the victim to death.
Assistant police inspector Sachin Kale of the Wadgaon Nimbalkar police told TOI that the main suspect, Amol Mane (27), fled out of the state after the murder. "We got a tip-off that Amol Mane was at Nidagundi village in Bijapur district of Karnataka. We laid a trap there and took him into custody," Kale said.
The officer stated that during questioning, the trio revealed that Gadekar lent Amol Mane some money. "Gadekar was harassing them for money. On April 5, they had heated arguments with Gadekar over the same issue, following which they plotted to eliminate him. On the same night, they called him under the pretext of returning his money and hacked him to death," Kale said.
