Delivery boy attacked after reporting Zepto supervisor’s theft
Surat: A 22-year-old delivery boy working with quick commerce platform Zepto was brutally attacked by three people — including a minor — after he reported a theft by his supervisor. The incident took place in the Laskana area and police have arrested the supervisor and his two aides for assaulting the victim with a knife and an iron rod.
The complainant, Mohit Tanna had been working under supervisor Amit Thakur for the past four months. Tanna's friend Siddharth, also a delivery executive, noticed that Amit frequently stole milk bottles from the Zepto store and reported the matter to the company's manager, Anand.
In retaliation, Amit allegedly deactivated Siddharth's delivery ID. When Amit threatened to do the same to Tanna, he too filed a complaint with Anand, who escalated it to Zepto's Surat head, Ashish.
On Monday, as Ashish was scheduled to visit the store in Laskana, Tanna, Siddharth, and three other delivery staff waited for him. Around 12:15pm, Amit arrived at the location and began abusing Tanna. He was soon joined by two accomplices — Vishal Thakur and a 17-year-old minor — who launched a violent assault.
Tanna was stabbed three times and struck on the head with an iron rod, causing him to bleed profusely. As he cried for help, the assailants fled the scene.
Laskana police inspector KA Chavda said, "We have arrested three individuals — Amit Thakur, Vishal Thakur, and a 17-year-old minor. Amit and Vishal are brothers.
The trio has been booked under BNS 118(2) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. Further investigation is underway."
