Surat: Daman Police on Sunday arrested a man from
Uttar Pradesh for posing as an officer on special duty (OSD) to home minister and ordering police to favour his friend in a case. Police arrested Surendra Singh from Bijnor district of UP and his friend Shehzad Ahmed from Vadala area of Mumbai.
According to the case, Singh called Nani Daman police SHO on Feb 20 and introduced himself as the personal OSD of the home minister. He told the SHO to file a complaint in a ‘zero FIR' received from Maharashtra police. He also told the police to favour Ahmed in the case.
The SHO doubted him, so he informed his higher officer. After an investigation, it was found that the OSD was fake. A complaint was registered against him under BNS 319 (2), 61 (2), 3 (5) for impersonation and criminal conspiracy.
During investigation, police found that it was Singh who had called Daman Police. He was nabbed from Bijnor. Singh told police that his Mumbai-based friend Ahmed had asked him to call police as he was involved in a case. Ahmed had offered him some money if he called police.
"Ahmed had filed a complaint with Maharashtra Police as someone transferred money using his phone. As the offence took place in Daman, police transferred the case here with a ‘zero' number. As Ahmed wanted a speedy probe, he told Singh to call police posing as an OSD. Ahmed was the complainant in his case, but with this cheating, he has now become accused in another case," said an officer of Daman Police.
