Vadodara: Anand police arrested two persons for allegedly running an illegal slaughterhouse.
Police had carried out a raid on Saturday and found a slaughterhouse being run from a house. The two individuals accused of running the operation were arrested on Tuesday.
An Anand town police team had conducted a raid in the Khatkiwad area on Anand Polson Dairy Road on Saturday, where the slaughterhouse was operational in a small room. Police seized 705kg of beef, instruments used to slaughter animals and a mobile phone, worth a total of Rs 1.42 lakh.
The accused, Asif alias Raju Alarakha Ahmed Kureshi, a resident of Tashkand Society, along with his accomplice, had fled the spot when police made the raid.
On Tuesday, police arrested Asif Kureshi and another accomplice, Rabbari Kadarbhai Kureshi, a 42-year-old from the Pipaliya Bhagol area of Umreth and currently a resident of Bismillah Society in Anand.
During a similar raid in 2022, police had found an illegal slaughterhouse being run from a room in the same locality. Police sources said they are investigating the scale of the operations and they suspect that beef from Anand was being supplied to Vadodara and other cities.
