Vijayawada: To clear construction and demolition (C&D) waste from sub-arterial roads in the city, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has signed an MoU with private tractor operators for periodic removal of debris. Under the MoU, tractor operators will remove debris daily from sub-arterial roads across 64 wards in three circles of the city. On average, five tractor operators have been signed up across the three circles.
"The C&D waste cleaned from the streets will be transferred to the excel plant and used to fill low-lying areas in the Employees' colony in the Gunadala area," circle-III assistant city planner Mohan Babu told TOI.
Identification of C&D waste on colony streets will be done by planning secretaries of the respective ward secretariats during their morning field visits. They will then alert tractor operators and share the geo-location of the waste. The debris will be cleared within 24 hours and transported to pre-designated sites using tractors.
