Filmmaker Karan Johar once revealed how he was completely unrecognized by Indian tourists in London and ended up being mistaken for a helpful passerby rather than a Bollywood celebrity. The incident that took place outside Selfridges, and Karan recalled the rather 'sad' incident during a live chat with Alia Bhatt.
Humbling interaction
Describing the moment as “so sad,” Karan said he was rushing to his hotel, juggling shopping bags filled with last-minute requests from his mother, when he noticed an elderly Indian couple looking at him excitedly. Thinking they recognised him, he prepared himself for a quick fan interaction. But to his surprise, the couple handed him their camera and asked him to take their picture, not with him, but of themselves.
“They had no idea who I was,” Karan confessed, adding, “They wanted a familiar Indian face to take their photo. It was, what you call, KLPD.” The filmmaker said he clicked their picture in shock and watched as they walked away, thanking him without a clue about his identity. The story has since become a fan-favorite anecdote, revealing Karan’s self-deprecating humour and how fame doesn’t always travel across continents.
On the personal front
Meanwhile, Karan is back in the spotlight for a different reason, his striking physical transformation. The director has shed considerable weight over the past year, sparking speculation about using weight-loss drugs. However, Karan recently clarified on Instagram Live that his transformation is the result of a strict one-meal-a-day diet and a health-conscious lifestyle. “I needed to correct my blood levels,” he said, also crediting activities like paddleball and swimming for helping him stay fit.
